They are very happy to welcome and pamper you!

Management: ARIANE WERRO, hostess
AYURVEDA RESPONSIBLE AT SEEHOTEL BÄREN

Profile: Vaidya SREEKUMAR GOPALAN, Ayurveda responsible

Vaidya means in Sanskrit Ayurveda Doctor or Healer. Doctor Kumar did his studies in well known Universities and Institutes in India. He is specialized in Kalari – Ayurveda – Panchakarma treatments - Pulse diagnosis - Physiological & Anatomical diagnosis.

Apart from all these assets his family has an Ayurveda tradition since 200 years in the State of Kerala, Southern India. His great grandfather, Dr. Narayan (son of the well known Vaidya Velayudhan) and his cousin, Dr. Kunjiraman, went together in 1909 to study Ayurveda at the Madras University. This university was the first one to offer lectures of the Ayurveda health science. They were also the first Ayurveda Doctors from Travancore (the major part of Kerala belonged then to this state) who graduated from an university. On April 8th, 1914, they were honoured by the title “Ayurveda Bhushana” from The Madras Ayurvedic College. A typical history of a traditional Indian family.

Dr. Kunjiraman Vaidyar started his practice in Kollam, Travancore; Dr. Narayan went to Madurai where he opened his practice. Madurai was the former capital of Tamil Nadu. Dr. Narayan was also designated as doctor of the Maharaja Palace of Madurai. After some time he left Madurai and started his own clinic on Wufandel Street (opp. St. Joseph school) in Colombo, Ceylon. He became pioneer in the field of clinical practice of Ayurveda including surgical facilities. Later on his son Dr. Gopinathan Channar took the clinic over for many years.

Kumar has large experience in the health science of Ayurveda, he worked in the Maldives, Crete, on Cruise ships (world wide). In 2004 he settled down in Germany. He is married to a German lady and has two sweet girls.

He speaks Malayalam, Tamil, Dhivehi, English and German.

Since three years Mr. Kumar is already our Ayurveda responsible. Our guests do fully appreciate the care he is administering to each and one of them. He is focussed also to help people with a whip-lash, who suffer from insomnia or burnt-out syndroms.

Kumar is an acknowledged member of the Swiss Association of Ayurveda Doctors and Therapists. He is also a member of NVS as Naturopath.

GREAT WELCOME!

AYURVEDA THERAPIST
Profile: MR. RAVI RAGHAVAN - Therapist
He was born in 1969 as the third child to Mr. Raghavan and Mrs. Sarada in Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala. The family and his ancestors have been farmers.

When completing school Ravi joined the Institute of Martial Art in 1984, which is also based in Trivandrum. After 6 years of studying martial arts and Ayurveda he started in 1990 first as instructor and soon afterwards he was promoted to chief instructor. He has been teaching Kalari for 20 years at the “Indian School of Martial Art” in Trivandrum. He conducts classes for students in martial arts as well as of ayurvedic treatments, teaching daily 2 classes (batch) of students, each one consisting of 40 pupils.

Ravi participated in many programs of martial art all over India, visited and performed also in the United States of America. He has been employed for many years as teacher of Ayurveda at a renowned centre “Dharmikam” where he worked as main therapist treating, together with his team, patients with long term cures. Pupils from all over the world took part in his classes of martial art and learnt about the large variety of Ayurveda health care.

Ravi, a fine sportsman, is also holding the black belt in Karate.

Since 20 years Ravi is married to a charming lady and has two lovely sons of age 20 and 17. They are living in Trivandrum surrounded by his large family.

He worked with us in Brienz during the years 2007 und 2008. Unfortunately the Swiss Government took the decision to hand over working permissions for workers outside the European Community only to hotels qualified with the label Wellness 1 or Wellness 2 – meaning that each of these hotels had to have a swimming pool (or two), several saunas and a room for fitness. All things which are not needed but even prohibited when doing Ayurveda!

Ravi worked during this period in our Villa Eden near Kovalam where he was one of our therapists. After a long period of very hard discussions the rules and regulations were finally changed and Ravi could return to Seehotel Bären. He can return 2018 again and this will be his second season!

We welcome Ravi again and thank him for being part of the team.

INTRODUCTION TO MARTIAL ARTS
Kerala is renowned for its varied martial arts. Kalaripayattu is possibly the oldest martial art still practised in the world. In ancient Kerala, Kalari was a place known for its great wisdom offering studies in sciences like philosophy, medicine, architecture, astrology and geometry, but of course also combat arts and yoga. The medical treatments in martial arts are based on the science of Ayurveda. According to the masters Kalari in its present form has existed for more than 1500 years. Martial arts incorporate a large variety of physical exercises, including methods of attack and defence, which combine the strength and flexibility of the body with the discipline and focus of the mind. Different kinds of swords are used during the elaborate performance of martial arts. The students use their swords and weapons with perfect dexterity. There are four disciplines in KALARI, promoting physical fitness, endurance and power, grace and flexibility, as well as the knowledge and mastery of the vital points of the human body. Along with fighting, the students learn how to treat injuries and how to heal wounds and bruises using the techniques of Ayurveda

CHEF DE CUISINE
Profile: SYRIL JOSEF, chef de cuisine

Syril Joseph is working already his 9th season in our hotel. He was born in Cochin, Kerala, SouthIndia, where he grew up.

Already as a boy his wish was to become a cook and later a known chef. After the basic school up to the 12th degree he visited the Mahatma Gandhi University and Academy for Management Studies where he got the diploma in professional cookery.

His first job was at the Hotel Geeth in Trivandrum and then in Kadaloram Beach Resort Trivandrum and further to the Kovilakom Residency in Calicut North of Kerala. He got the chance to work in Bahrain at the Hotel Palace where he stayed 3 years as a Chef. He was appointed as Ayurveda Chef de Cuisine at the Ayurvaydia Health Center in Kerala.

Monique from Seehotel Bären met him in Kovalam, where he was working as a Chef at the Hotel Sea Rock. She enjoyed his specialities and returned with other guests from Europe to taste his excellent Indian and Ayurvedic tidbits.

She said to Syril “One day, when my yet Chef from Kerala would like to retire, I shall ask you if you would like to come to Switzerland and work in Brienz”.

The hotel Sea Rock closed for renovation and Monique, who was looking for a new chef, went around searching for Syril. Nobody actually wanted to know or give her the new address. Finally it was found out that he had a job at the nearby Restaurant Spice Village where he worked as a Chef. Monique went for a dinner to this restaurant and asked him “Would you like to work with us?” Syril could not believe his ears, the offer was repeated and he agreed with utter pleasure.

Since then Syril is preparing tasty Ayurvedic tidbits and Indian delicacies. His cuisine is renowned and highly appreciated.

Two years ago he got married to Binsi, a most charming lady, who is working as head nurse in a hospital. He is father of a darling girl.

Now he returns home to his family. In January 2017 a sweet little daughter has been born by Binci and Syril spends a wonderful intense time with his family.

In the meantime he has gotten a broad knowledge of Swiss specialities and the French cuisine and he likes to help his colleagues.

Great to have you again with us Syril!

Many more helping hands are assisting this professional crew. Let us start with the reception where you are welcome with a great smile, to the ladies responsible for the rooms and laundry, to the co-workers in the service, who will fulfil all your wishes.

We are very happy to be able to work with such great personalities!

Monique and Ariane Werro, your hostesses
