PROFILE BIJUKUMAR GOPINATHAN
A VERY WARM WELCOME BIJU!
A short summary: Biju worked for 9 years as a professional Ayurveda therapists in our Seehotel Bären until 2008. Suddenly, the working permissions were no longer available and he could no longer work with us! For years, we have done everything possible so that he could return to Switzerland! Finally on Friday, February12th ,2016, we received an email that the federal authority has newly granted a work permit for Biju!
Of course, throughout the yearswe still had contact with Biju; he was in Vizhinjam, Kerala, responsible for our Villa Eden as a manager. An excellent Ayurveda therapist he was also responsible for the wellbeing of our guests who had traveled to Kerala.
He was born in 1975 in Mithirmala, Kerala, a small village of about 2000 inhabitants, located 60 kms from Trivandrum. The father is a farmer and he grew up on the farm with his two brothers. Biju is the oldest child.
Biju visited the local school in his village and left at the age of 15 to go to Trivandrum. There he found his master Mr.Raju, who introduced him to martial arts which is one of the most ancient ways of approach towards ayurveda. During 2 years he learnt this very difficult and quite tough sport and only after this period he was allowed to start his apprenticeship as Ayurveda masseur.
In the wellknown school of Mr.Raju he was taught daily the first principles of ayurveda, starting with marma massage. After 1 ½ year he was allowed for the first time to treat patients alone, but still under the strict supervision of Raju. Then slowly he was introduced to the other types of massages and treatments like abhyanga, powder and feather, kizhi, dhara, pizhichil. It took him 4 years of intensive training before he was allowed to do all these treatments alone.
Only after a learning process of 6 years Biju had finally full control of his resources and could offer also the most difficult treatment - the rejuvenation massage.
He started his professional career under the direction of Raju at the well-known Heritage Hotel Surya Samudra, which was then owned by Prof. Klaus Schleusener a German Professor, who had lost his heart and soul in Southern India, when he was teaching at the Goethe-Institut in Madras. He remained there and offered to many local persons the possibility to work at his renowned hotel in Pulinkudi. Biju also worked at the centre owned by Mr.Raju, as well as at other hotels, such as Agastya Gardens and Hotel Rockholm in Kovalam Beach.
Biju fell in love with a very nice young lady, whom he met at Raju’s house and who happened to be the cousin of Raju. They were given the blessing of both families and got married. They have a charming daughter.
He is so much looking forward to returning to Switzerland, he had adapted very well to our “ways” and is highly appreciated by our guests and the whole team.

Monique from Seehotel Bären met him in Kovalam, where he was working as a Chef at the Hotel Sea Rock in Kovalam. She enjoyed his specialities and returned with other guests from Europe to taste his excellent Indian and Ayurvedictidbits.
She said to Syril “one day, when my yet Chef from Kerala would like to retire, I shall ask you if you would like to come to Switzerland and work in Brienz”.
The hotel Sea Rock closed for renovation and Monique, who was looking for a new chef, went around looking for Syril. Nobody actually wanted to know or give her the new address. Finally it was found out that he had a job at the nearby Restaurant Spice Village where he worked as a Chef. During a dinner he was asked by Monique “Would you like to work with us?” Syril could not believe his ears, the offer was repeated and he agreed with utter pleasure.
Since then Syril is preparing tasty Ayurvedictidbits and Indian delicacies. His cuisine is renowned and highly appreciated.
